About Kaya Noir
Some stories begin with a product. Kaya Noir began with a people.
Born from the soil of West Africa and the enduring spirit of its people, Kaya Noir was created from a simple but powerful conviction: the African diaspora deserves apparel that reflects the full depth of who they are. Not a trend. Not a costume. A declaration.
The name carries its own meaning. Kaya is a Swahili word for home, rooted in the sacred ancestral homesteads of the Mijikenda people of coastal Kenya. Noir is black, in French, the language spoken across much of the continent Kaya Noir celebrates. Together the name means simply: the Black Home. The place every member of the diaspora carries inside them, wherever in the world they stand.
Kaya Noir is founded and operated by Omar Sanda Kotondi, based in Osaka, Japan.
Wear Your Roots. Honor Your Legacy.
Kaya Noir creates premium Pan-African apparel for the global African diaspora. Men and women who carry the continent with them wherever they are in the world. Every design is grounded in history, culture, and the conviction that the stories of Africa's greatest figures deserve to be worn, shared, and remembered.
From Queen Nzinga of Angola to Sarraounia of Niger, the warrior queen who repelled the French colonial advance in 1899 and whose name echoes across generations, to Melody Millicent Danquah, the first female pilot in Sub-Saharan Africa, Kaya Noir celebrates the leaders, rebels, artists, and visionaries who built a continent and whose legacies continue to shape the world.
Each piece is printed on heavyweight premium blanks because the stories being told deserve nothing less than the best canvas.
Kaya Noir is not a fast fashion brand. It is not chasing trends. It is building something permanent. A wardrobe for the diaspora that honors where they come from and boldly declares who they are.
This is more than clothing.
It is a monument. Worn.
